Today, the Second South Caucasus Youth Parliament was officially opened! Members of the opening committee were the ministers of education of Georgia and Armenia, EU representatives, directors of political schools in Tbilisi en Yerevan and off course the director of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Georgia. The Shift From Command To Ownership With Teachers In Azerbaijan

How do you prepare Azeri teachers to provide lessons on Democracy for their pupils? Since we believe you can only learn about democracy - how it works, what it asks of you as a citizen - by experiencing it, we made a Game for Caucasus youth. We blogged about this experiences before. Now, the next step is to support teachers in working with that Game. We chose a similar approach: instead of 'lecturing' and 'explaining' we engaged the teachers in an experience, through which they could learn about how to facilitate learning about democracy. Designing the Ultimate Democracy Game: The South Caucasus Youth Parliament Programme

Democratisation and political participation are major issues in South Caucasus countries Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. For instance in Georgia, 70 percent of the people doesn't see the need for voting and elections. Startling figures, which indicate low faith in such mechanisms. Can this be changed? Can we help young people learn about the workings of democracy and build their trust in such institutions?
